June 26
Prof. YOSHIMIZU Chizuko and Mr. KOSAKA Arihiro, a Tsukuba graduate student, presented their new research results at an international workshop “Candrakīrti and beyond.” (Organized by the Institute for the Cultural and Intellectual History of Asia of the Austrian Academy of Sciences).

September 1 – October 15
Prof. Dorji Wangchuk and Dr. Orna Almogi were invited for the period September 1 – October 15. Young Japanese scholars and students had the opportunity to learn from these two prominent scholars.

September 7 – 8
Prof. Dorji Wangchuk and Dr. Orna Almogi presented their new research results at “International Seminar on Tibetan Languages and Historical Documents.” (Kobe City University of Foreign Studies).

September 21 – 22
Prof. ONO Motoi organized a workshop on “The research sessions on the pratyakṣa chapter of Prajñākaragupta’s Pramāṇavārttikālaṃkāra,” with Prof. Wangchuk, Dr. Almogi, Dr. Patrick McAllister (Austrian Academy of Science), Prof. MORIYAMA Shinya (Shinshu University) and others.

September 25 – 26
A workshop “The Role of Lectures in Translation and Transmission of Buddhist Texts” was held by Prof. Wangchuk, Dr. Almogi, Prof. NEMOTO Hiroshi (Hiroshima University), Dr. KANO Kazuo (Komazawa University) and others.

September 27
A Session “Digital Humanities: ICT Innovations in Classical Studies” was held at the Tsukuba Global Science Week 2017. (International Congress Center EPOCHAL TSUKUBA).

September 28 – 29
An Intensive Lecture Series on the topic “Cross-Systemic Buddhist Notion of the Middle Way” was held by Prof. Wangchuk (Religious Studies IV(5)B、Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences).

October 3
Indo-Tibetan Lexical Resource (ITLR) Seminar.

October 5 – 6
An Intensive Seminar on the topic “Passages from Rong zom pa’s Commentary on the Mañjuśrīnāmasaṃgīti” by Prof. Wangchuk (Seminar in Religious Studies IV(5)B Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences).

November 27
An interdisciplinary workshop “Onko-Kakushin” was held by young scholars of History, Archaeology and Classical Studies, and Mr. KOSAKA presented his research.

January 20 – February 3
Mr. KOSAKA and Mr. YOKOYAMA Akito (Graduate students of University of Tsukuba) visited the Department of Indian and Tibetan Studies, Asia-Africa Institute of the Universität Hamburg, and joined various classes and study groups of the department.

January 22
Prof. YOSHIMIZU and Dr. KONDO Hayato presented their research results at “The Tsukuba-Hamburg Universities Symposium Series: Buddhist Studies Young Scholars’ Workshop 2018.”

January 26
Mr. KOSAKA and Mr. YOKOYAMA presented their research results at “The Tsukuba-Hamburg Universities Symposium Series: Buddhist Studies Young Scholars’ Workshop 2018.”

Prof. Harunaga Isaacson was invited for the period February 6 – 22.

February 7 – 9
Prof. Isaacson gave an active seminar on “Philology and Critically Editing.”

February 13 – 14
“Workshop on Maṇḍana Miśra and Bhartṛhari” was held by Prof. Isaacson, Dr. Hugo David (EFEO Pondicherry), Dr. SAITO Akane (JSPS Research Fellow) and others.

February 16 – 18
Prof. Isaacson joined a workshop at Taisho University (organized by Prof. KYUMA Taiken (Mie University) and Prof. TANEMURA Ryugen (Taisho University)).
