2016 (September 2016–March 2017)

Prof. Michael Zimmermann was invited for the period September 1–20, and September 29 – October 19. In September, Dr. Christopher Jones from Oxford University, working on a topic related to that of Prof. Zimmermann, was invited to stay at Tsukuba University and joined the IERLP team. Young Japanese scholars and students had the opportunity to learn from these two prominent scholars.

The International Symposium entitled “Pluralism in Mahāyāna Buddhism: Strategies of Demarcation, Inclusivism and Tolerance” was held on the Tokyo Campus of the University of Tsukuba (Co-organized with ICR and Harvard Yenching Institute).

Tsukuba graduate students Mr. KOSAKA Arihiro and Mr. YOKOYAMA Akito visited the Department of Indian and Tibetan Studies, Asia-Africa Institute of the University of Hamburg, and joined various classes and study groups of the department.

Dr. SHIDA Taisei presented his research at the Department of Indian and Tibetan Studies, University of Hamburg.

January 18
Mr. KOSAKA Arihiro and Mr. YOKOYAMA Akito presented their researche results at the Doctoral Colloquium at the University of Hamburg.

February 10–11
The International Workshop entitled “The Sāṅkhya Doctrine Referred to in the Buddhist Corpus” was held at Tokyo Campus.
